The East Wake Senior
High Academy is proud to announce a collaboration with the Jimmy &
Rosalynn Carter Partnership Foundation (JRCPF) of Atlanta, GA. The
Senior Academy was selected as one of three high schools in the nation
to host the first Carter Academic Service Entrepreneur (CASE) grant
program in a high school. This competition will seek to find the most
innovative and promising way for our high school students to serve the
community with a project related to their courses of study.
The CASE grant pilot
program awards a $1,000 grant for the winning student to implement in a
community project, a $500 scholarship upon completion of a final report
and a certificate of merit signed by President and Mrs. Carter for the
student and his or her faculty advisor. All students, whose proposals
meet the criteria, are presented with certificates from the Jimmy &
Rosalynn Carter Partnership Foundation. The grant, sponsored by the
W.K. Kellogg Foundation, is designed to foster academic service-learning
at American colleges and universities. This project for our academy,
will be a demonstration that it works equally well in secondary
education. In addition to the monetary prize and certificate, the winner’s project report will be
published on the Foundation’s website,
www.jrcpf.org and
www.servicebook.org the Jimmy & Rosalynn
Carter community online service.
Applications for the
grant will begin Friday, January 30th
with a special interest meeting for more information during high school
lunch in the Student Union. The deadline for the application will be
Thursday, April 9th. Students who have worked with a
community partner in or around the Triangle area in the past and have an
idea for a service-learning project that deepens the connection between
the Academy and community are strongly encouraged to apply. The
application guidelines encourage ingenuity as the student links their
academic learning experience with a community need. This grant will be
awarded to the most promising project proposal taking place in the 2009
spring semester. Online application for the grant is available at
www.servicebook.org. The winner of the
CASE Grant will be chosen by a local selection panel following the
criteria of the grant and knowledgeable about academic-service learning.
About the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Partnership Foundation
The Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Partnership Foundation recognizes the best
academic-service learning work of students and faculty as they partner
with community groups and community agencies. Recognition comes to
winners of the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Partnership Award (JCPA) or the
Carter Academic-Service Entrepreneur grant (CASE). Such recognition is a
powerful motivator and provides a vivid picture of excellence - and
success - for scores of other applicants each year in each state where
the programs are held. Hundreds of applicant organizations have received
recognition through the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Partnership Award.
Some have attracted more participants and, in some cases, have attracted
more funding. By applying similar uniform and high standards to JRCPA
and CASE selection, the programs not only recognize the best models, but
inspire others to excel and achieve the status of a Carter Certified
Partnership for campus-community collaboration or a Carter Certified
Academic-Service Entrepreneur. For more information visit:
