William
Perry and Whitney Riggs of East Wake Academy Charter School are
recipients of the 2011 NC Teaching Fellows scholarship. This
prestigious scholarship is awarded to 500 students across the state of
North Carolina. Each student receives a $26,000 scholarship loan from
the state, payable in $6,500 annual increments. The full loan is
forgiven after the Fellow has completed four years of Teaching in North
Carolina Public Schools.
As a
teaching fellow, students have the opportunity to earn their degree and
licensure from the School of Education, participate in educational
seminars and internships that focus on best practices and current issues
facing our public schools, as well as travel to present at conferences
and other collegiate activities.
William
will attend the University of North Carolina at Asheville and Whitney
will attend East Carolina University.
Mrs. Lauren
Johnson, College Coordinator states, “We’re very impressed with our
scholars for not only proving outstanding academic merit, but for also
expressing strong alacrity for their passion to teach, care, and make a
difference!” |
