EWA News

East Wake Academy Families:

Our Admin Team met this week via ZOOM to continue planning our next steps.  As we communicated earlier, Governor Cooper has issued an executive order for schools to be closed through May 15th.  We realize that this executive order will have a significant impact on our entire EWA family. This continues to be a frustrating, fluid situation, and you need to know that we remain focused and committed to students, staff and the entire East Wake Academy Community. This is a lengthy communication, but please take the time to review all of the important information.

Classes will begin through eLearning on April 6. Our goal is to keep students on a learning trajectory that benefits them in the long run.  We greatly appreciate your support of these learning efforts.

Please begin to develop a routine for your child as they begin online learning.  They will not be in class from 8:00am to 3:00pm.  Your child's teacher will be sharing information this week about the age appropriate expectations moving forward.

eLearning reminders

  • Teachers in grades k-2 will email parents and guardians directly (Class Dojo and other means as well)
  • Teachers will communicate with students in grades 3-12 through school-issued email addresses/team communication
  • MA/HS Teachers will communicate assignments through LMS (Google Classroom, etc…) and student email
  • Contact IT@eastwakeacaemy.org for technical issues with EWA issued devices

Building Access

In an effort to allow students to pick up items they need for this period and to allow for Chromebook check out for those who need a device, please use the following schedule:

*Due to the Governor’s Executive order – students are not allowed in any building until May 15.

Thursday, April 2nd:  9:00am-12:00pm

Chromebooks are available to families that need access to an internet-enabled device.   All students will need to be able to have some type of internet-enabled device.  We have a number of Chromebooks for distribution, but any at-home computer will be able to access the assignment through the internet.

If you need an EWA device – you must complete the form attached here:

Please contact the House administrator should you have questions.

Calendar Change Remember that the board has changed March 31 and April 1 to workdays for staff.  You will be receiving communication from your child's teacher(TEAM) this week with more details about instruction moving forward.

Cancellations and Postponements

We are working to keep East Wake Academy connected and thriving.  We, along with our community, understand the significant impact of canceling events.  We are working with our partners to reschedule and postpone what we can. We will continue to work through this process. Some of the more significant events are detailed below, more information on other activities/events will follow.

Prom

Prom was originally scheduled for May 2nd, and we are working to reschedule with high hopes.  Unfortunately, May 15th is now out as well. We are postponing Prom and are working to reschedule at a later date.  THIS DOES NOT MEAN PROM IS CANCELED! Hold tight and look for the green light and more information soon. Mrs. Setzer is working hard with the venue.

Class of 2020 Graduation

We have all intentions of celebrating the Class of 2020. Our traditional plans are still in place and we will continue to monitor the situation.  All events connected to 2020 Graduation are currently on as scheduled. We will continue to update families regarding Graduation.

Athletics

The NCHSAA has suspended play until May 18th.

Easter Break

Easter Break will be observed on April 10-13, 2020.  As with everything in our new environment, this could change as everything is fluid and based on constantly changing information.

Cookie Dough (Update from Boosters)

Due to the current situation with COVID-19, we are going to postpone the pick-up of our Candy Man cookie dough and fundraiser items.  We have been in contact with our representative with Candy Man and he is prepared to reschedule the delivery as soon as the restrictions are lifted, and we feel that it is safe to do so.  Thank you so much for your support of our fundraiser and your understanding of the rescheduled delivery.  We will be in touch once a new date is confirmed.  Stay safe.

Counseling Resources

Our Counseling Department is continuing to work with our families in need and are updating resources regularly.

Helping out our EWA Families

We are all facing a very different time right now and trying to figure it out together as we adapt to our "new norm". While we understand that many of our families are facing new challenges, we want to make sure we continue to carry out programs we have set in place to support our very own EWA families.  Our Backpack Buddies is one of those programs we would like to continue but we will need your support.  Backpack Buddies helps supply food and snacks to families each week that may struggle to fill in the gaps.

If you are able and willing to help- we will be collecting non-perishable food items (please make sure they are not expired) and essential items such as paper plates, toilet paper, sanitizer, cleaning wipes to help these students.   We will have drop boxes set out front of the school on Thursday from 9am-12pm for you to just drive-thru and drop off.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email Mrs. Cracchiolo at ecracchiolo@eastwakeacademy.org.

Again, we will all get through this together.  EWA is a special place and it is times like this when it shows.  Stay safe!

Thank you for your flexibility and positivity as we continue to navigate through this together! There is still much uncertainty which can make it difficult to plan for the coming months, weeks, and even days. Thank you so much for working with us during this unprecedented time.

Continue to SOAR EAGLES!
