Good Morning Senior Academy

"Any RISING SENIOR that has not already met with Ms. Griswold to select classes for next year needs to schedule an appointment. The last day for RISING SENIORS is Friday, February 24." 


CONGRATULATIONS:

Congratulations to Nuvia Mendoza on her acceptances to Wake Technical Community College, Mary Baldwin University with a $80,000 scholarship, Campbell University with collective scholarships or $62,400 and William Peace University with scholarships totaling $65,100, and to Savion Taylor on his acceptances to NC A&T, ECU and  to Elon University with a $30,000 Scholarship.


STUDENTS STAY UPDATED: 

Spirit Week is coming February 27th-March 3rd with a Pep Rally in the Gym and FOOD Trucks on Friday, March 3rd. The days are as follows:

Monday- Gym Rat vs. Couch Potato

Tuesday- Emo Day

Wednesday- Y2k Day

Thursday- Hero vs. Villain Day

Friday- Color War

seniors- black, juniors-blue, sophomores- green, freshman- white

Students, as promised by your Student Body Vice President, McKayla Pearce, the time has come to give our beloved mascot an official name! Posted around the school you will find QR Codes to submit names for our mascot until the end of the school day on Friday.

All submissions must be appropriate and will be monitored and linked to school emails, so be wise with your submissions.

Student Council will take the suggestions and create a final list of names to be voted on during Spirit Week, with the official name being announced at our Pep Rally next Friday, March 3rd.

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES:

The Rising Leaders Initiative is a one-year advocacy training program for charter high school students who want to become active participants in education policy decisions in their local community and state and develop skills to guide their educational and professional pathways.

The application process for the Rising Leaders class for the 2023-24 academic year is now open! Applications are due Feb. 28. Click here to apply.

Girls Who Code is celebrating its 10 year anniversary by offering two FREE programs in the summer: the virtual Summer Immersion Program and the Self-Paced Program. See announcements email for application.

Shelton Challenge - Shelton Leadership (ncsu.edu) This is a leadership retreat for rising 10-12th graders.  The core curriculum of this six-day summer program is based on General Shelton’s five values related to leadership: honesty, integrity, diversity, social responsibility, and compassion. Traditionally, participants live on campus at NC State University for the duration of the retreat. The application is found at the link. This will look good on college applications! 

Scholarships:

Seniors who live in Wilson, Nash or Franklin County could qualify for the Golden Leaf Scholarship that is worth up to $14,000. Here is the link for more information: https://scholars.goldenleaf.org/

Nash Community College News:

Nash CC will be hosting a CTE showcase and this year we have included activities for students K-12.  There will be interactive stations, games, and giveaways for all to enjoy and we hope that students and parents will come with lots of questions and excitement.  The event is on Tuesday February 28th from 3:30-6:30pm.


EWA NEWS: 

EWA K-12 field trip Educational day: Our school spring field trip will be Wednesday, April 12th at the Mudcats Stadium in Zebulon, NC. All students K-12 will be attending an EWA Mudcats Educational Day! The consent form found at bit.ly/EWAMudcats2023 must be completed for each student by Friday, March 3rd. 


CLUBS:

FBLA will meet this Friday at lunch in Warren’s room to discuss Inspire and State Competition.

SPORTS:

The varsity girls basketball team came up just short last night as they headed to Northside for the first round of the state tournament. The girls had a fantastic season and will greatly miss seniors  Trista Pope and Madi  Wall. Thank you students for attending our home games!
