Message from the Superintendent

Week of April 25, 2021

As we kick off the last week in April, we are so excited to welcome back a large group of students that have been quarantined.  Our elementary staff is so excited!  We continue to thank our families who understand our focus on safety and for them keeping kids at home when they are not feeling well or show any symptoms of COVID 19.  East Wake Academy does continue to do morning wellness checks.  We continue to see this as one more layer of safety and support for our families.

The Governor's talk last week about the lifting of restrictions by June 1 was great news. We continue to plan our return for the 2021-22 school year.  If we do not have any setbacks imposed by the State – we plan to be 100% face to face! We are not saying it will be back to the old normal, but we will be back to doing what we do best – teaching face to face and building those deep relationships with our students and families.  We need to continue to do our part and reduce community spread!  We are getting closer than we have been in a long time -we got this if we work together.

EOG / EOC / CTE / HS Exams – Each HOUSE admin has or will be sharing information about end-of-the-year testing.  The State still requires us to administer EOG / EOC / CTE assessments.  Our team is working on and sharing plans about how we will test both F2F and remote students safely.  As you may know, all EOG / EOC / CTE assessments must be given F2F.

Board Election Information - The EWA Board of Directors will elect Directors for two (2) expiring seats (terms are ending June 2021) at its regular meeting on June 8 at 7:30 pm in the Baker Center (inside the High School).  Any person interested in applying for a Board seat should submit a current resume or bio, along with interest and vision for EWA. Submittals should include contact information and shall be delivered via electronic mail to stephanie.hall@eastwakeacademy.org.   A question-and-answer session will be held before the board meeting from 6:00–7:00 pm on June 8 in the Baker Center (NCDHHS COVID-19 safety protocols are required).

Teacher Appreciation:

We appreciate the many families and businesses that have stepped up to support our planning for Teacher appreciation Week. We still have opportunities for you to help out.

As you know, East Wake Academy has an INCREDIBLE staff! We are asking that you help us celebrate them in a big way this year! In preparation for Teacher Appreciation Week (May3-7), we ask families to help by donating gift cards. Our goal is to collect enough gift cards so each EWA staff member would receive at least a gift of $20. If you would like to partner with us to help make this happen, please go to the Sign-Up Genius below and sign up for the card you would like to donate. Donated gift cards can be dropped off at any of the three offices on or before April 28.

Please just put the cards in an envelope and mark them as Teacher Appreciation. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Weatherspoon -  cweatherspoon@eastwakeacademy.org.

Thank you in advance for your support of our outstanding teachers and staff!

FAQ:

What if I am not able to donate $20 but would like to help? You can also donate a $10 gift card.

What if I would rather donate money? You may donate on our website, and we will use that money towards other activities during Teacher Appreciation Week. Please use the GIVING tab on the top right of the website.

What if you do not receive enough gift cards to give out to all staff? We will use the ones we collect and do fun raffles and drawings for them throughout the week.

Teacher appreciation Theme Week – Please see the attached THEME DAY plans for teacher appreciation week.  Each day gives families an idea of how to tell a teacher THANKS!

Looking for Leads:

We are looking for quotes or leads for companies that can do the following work:

Industrial Painting – we need to have the exterior staircase at the high school sandblasted and repainted.  Possible other stair railing work on other areas of campus.

Asphalt Sealing – we need parking lots on campus resealed and relined / numbered.

Mobile Unit Skirting – the skirting on our mobile unit is 15 to 20 years old.  We need to replace the current skirting.

These will all be summer track out activities.

We continue to look for local businesses and ones that are tied to our families.  If you have a lead, please send to Belinda Lloyd: blloyd@eastwakeacademy.org
