Board Announcement from August 1, 2021:

Effective immediately, all students, staff, and visitors to East Wake Academy will be required to wear a mask.  This is a change from our original plan that was shared on July 23, 2021.  The Governor, CDC, and DHHS have updated their guidance in the toolkit based on the increase of COVID cases related to the Delta variant.  Our five-county service area has returned to the High-risk category, and cases have doubled in the past week.

The board’s goal is to have students consistently in school and provide them with a safe learning environment.  The board understands that we are still in a global pandemic, and COVID is a public health issue.  The board is tasked with overseeing what is best for all students.

The Governor and NCDHHS continue to provide guidance to schools through the NC Strong School’s Toolkit.  The guidance now uses SHOULD for recommendations to mitigate the spread of COVID.

Starting IMMEDIATELY:

  • All K-12 students must wear a face covering while inside school buildings (Mask must cover nose and mouth)
  • All staff must wear a face covering
  • All visitors to campus must wear a face covering while inside buildings
  • Masks are not required outside or on the playground

The board has rescheduled its meeting for August 10, 2021.  The board will revisit the masking requirements at that time.

PAL: Don't forget to send those forms and money to join PAL and get your dress down passes with child to turn in to their HOMEROOM/FIRST PERIOD teacher.  If you did not get a chance to stop by our table, be sure to head over to our website at ewapal.com. This is where you can join PAL as well as get your child's annual dress down pass. Cutoff for Dress Down Annual Passes are August 13th! Your child will be able to still participate by paying $4 on Tuesday or Wednesday the week of Dress Down. The first Dress Down Day is August 26th!!  Reminders will come out about that often as it approaches. When you join PAL you also are entered into our drawing for a $250 Visa gift card!!! Cutoff for joining to be entered is September 10th, you may continue to join after that date. A winner will be announced at our Back to School Bash on September 17th from 6-8. More information will come as this event gets closer. We look forward to seeing you at our first PAL meeting of the school year on August 23rd at 6pm in the Eagle Hall in the HS building. CLUBS:

Club Interest Day this Friday – More information to come.

Pre-Health Professionals Club

Mrs. Griswold is excited to bring the Pre-Health Club to EWA juniors and seniors interested in a career in the medical field. She would like to see how many of you are interested in going into the medical field and if you would be interested in joining a club that will be focused on the best way to prepare for your next step, whether it is an associates in Nursing at a community college, or Medical School at John Hopkins. This club will give you a good foundation on the steps you should be taking while you're still in high school or how you should prepare for which direction you should go after graduation based on researching career paths, researching the appropriate programs you should pursue, writing a resume or personal statement, and volunteering and interacting with professionals from different medical careers. During club interest day, students can be directed to her room – or email pgriswold @eastwakeacademy.org

The time has come for the Student Council Interest Meeting that will be held during lunch in Mr. Raynors room TODAY, August 3rd and Wednesday August 4th . Mr. Raynor will provide you with important information regarding student council, applications, requirements, responsibilities, and the election process.

You must come to the meeting in order to receive an application for Student Council unless discussed with Mr. Raynor prior. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting!

EWA is excited to continue our partnership with EF as we begin to plan for future travel as COVID restrictions begin to lift. If you are interested in traveling abroad with EWA to England during Summer '22, Message Clyde Shafer (cshafer@eastwakeacademy.org) for more information.
