Rising 10th-12th Graders: The Shelton Challenge application is now open. The Shelton Challenge is a six-day residential program on NC State's campus and is built on the Shelton Leadership Center’s core values – integrity, diversity, social responsibility, and compassion – This opportunity is designed to help high school emerging leaders enhance their capacities to become values-based leaders. The application can be found here. Please reach out to Ms. Shearin with any questions. Applications are due February 15.

Spirit Week is coming February 5th to 9th with a Pep Rally and the Homecoming Dance being Friday, February 9th from 8pm til 12pm.

The Spirit Week Days are as follows:

Monday- Pajama Day

Tuesday- Rhyme without a Reason Day

Wednesday- Sports vs. Video Game Day

Thursday- Anything but a Backpack Day

Friday- Color Wars

  • Seniors: Black
  • Juniors: Red
  • Sophomores: Blue
  • Freshmen: Green

Homecoming:

Homecoming Court Nominations are now being accepted. Please scan the QR Codes around the school to nominate 2 people. Homecoming Court will be announced at the Pep Rally and Winners will be announced at the Dance! Will be on Friday, February 9th from 8pm until 12 in the Senior Academy. The theme for this year will be “Festival of Lights,” so dress to impress! Students are expected to dress in their

best.

Homecoming Tickets went on sale Monday, January 29th. Tickets will be sold at the half circle at lunch for $7 or $10 at the door. Guest Forms can be found on the Blue Bulletin board in the blue folder. 

  • Guests from outside of East Wake Academy are allowed, but must fill out a guest form and have prior approval. Guest forms should be submitted by Wednesday, February 7th at 4pm. Forms can be picked up at the Eagle Bulletin Board and submitted to Mr. Raynor.

The Homecoming Dress Code is as follows:

● All attendees should be dressed in semi-formal wear.

● Jeans are not allowed. Gentlemen should be in dress shirts and dress pants, ties and jackets are

optional.

● Dresses may be strapless or backless with straps, sleeved or sleeveless, or have spaghetti straps, one strap or halter strap. Dresses may NOT be both strapless and backless.

● Midriff exposure must be no more than 2 inches.

● Dresses AND slits in dresses cannot be shorter than fingertip length.


EWA NEWS: 

Lottery Application Begins January 8th: East Wake Academy's Lottery Application for the 2024 - 2025 school year will begin January 8th at 8 am and end on February 15th at noon. This applies to Siblings of current students and General Public.  Please go to www.eastwakeacademy.org and click on the Lottery Link on the Home page or the Admissions page. Lottery Application is online only.  Siblings go through the Lottery also and you must complete the Lottery Application to be included in the Lottery for the 2024 - 2025 school year.  The  Lottery will take place on March 6th at 9 am in the Eagle Hall Senior Academy.  You do not have to be present for the Lottery.  Once the Lottery is over, you will receive an email within 45 minutes of the lottery letting you know whether you got in and what the next steps are.  If waitlisted you will get an email letting you know what number you are and KEEP this email as you can check this for updates at any time.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Kim Campbell at kcampbell@eastwakeacademy.org.

CLUBS: 

The Dance Ensemble auditions for next school year will be held after school on Monday, February 26th and Tuesday, February 27th from 3:30-4:30. Please see Mrs. Cyrus this week to pick up an audition packet and recommendation forms. 

"The EWA National Honor Society will be collecting donations for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society this week Monday the 5th through Friday the 9th. Donations will be accepted outside of Mrs. Nettles' room during lunch. Any donations will be greatly appreciated!". 

"There will be a community service club meeting today Ms Nettle's room during lunch. "

Mark your calendars - FBLA will meet Friday Feb 23 in Warren's room at lunch! 

Attention students: Please come out to support your fellow male classmates as they play volleyball for various cancer charities in our first annual Volley-Bros tournament this Thursday, February 8th at 4:30 in the gym. All money collected from admissions and concessions will be donated to the cancer charity that is determined by the winning team. Come out and show your support!!

First Priority meets every Thursday in the Baker Center during lunch. Anyone is welcome, and we would love to see you there!

Attention EWA High School Students: Would you like FREE admission toTHIS Tuesday's (2/6/24) HOME basketball game (SENIOR NIGHT)??  STUDENTS will receive FREE admission if they bring a homemade Valentine's Day Card.  These cards will be shared with the elderly community at our local assisted living facilities.  Decorate your card, write a kind note, and bring it Tuesday night for FREE admission.

High School students who are interested in participating in spring sports need to turn in their tryout packets no later than 2/13. See Coach Bowman if you have any questions.
