A Message from the Superintendent 4/18/2022

Week of April 18, 2022

We hope that everyone can take advantage of the long weekend! Please take time to relax and recharge! COVID is still in the area, and we are seeing an uptick in cases. At this time of the year, it is hard to determine the difference between allergies and COVID. In working with Wake DHHS, we still need to have a negative test or an alternate diagnosis. If your child is sick or showing symptoms, please stay at home for the safety of others.

Carpool – ALL PARENTS: Please watch your speed as you enter campus. We have staff and students exiting cars and on sidewalks. We need to be careful with the safety of all! HS parents – DO NOT PARK in any adjacent parking lots on Industrial Drive. Our business park neighbors have asked us to remind our families. We need to be good neighbors, so please help us! This continues to be an issue!

DO NOT MOVE CONES – if you see cones placed on campus, they are there for a reason. Do not move the cones for any reason without the supervision of a staff member.

Teacher Appreciation Week:  Thank you so much to those families that have already made donations or sent in gift cards!  We are off to a great start!  This is just a reminder that we are looking for donations that we can use for Teacher Appreciation Week this year- May 2-6th.  Please see below ways you can help us celebrate our teachers/staff:

1. Donate a gift card- We would love to be able to gift each teacher/staff member with a gift card again this year! You can donate an actual gift card or an e-gift card.  Please be sure to mark them with Teacher Appreciation on the envelope when you send them in.  We will be collecting gift cards from now until April 25. (Suggested value of $20) Please click here to sign up to donate a gift card:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/508054DA5A922AA8-lets

2. Donate an item for a drawing/door prize- We would love to collect items and do daily giveaways throughout the week.  Any donated items can be dropped off with Mrs. Boykin in the K-4 lobby.  You may also email Mrs. Weatherspoon to make other arrangements.

3.  Make a monetary donation on our website at www.eastwakeacademy.org under the GIVING tab or through myschoolbucks.com under the Teacher Appreciation tab. All monies collected will be used to help celebrate teachers!

Thanks in advance for helping make this a special week for our teachers!!! If you have any other questions concerning Teacher Appreciation, please contact Mrs. Weatherspoon @ cweatherspoon@eastwakeacademy.org

BOOK FAIR

Dear Parents and Families:

We are happy to announce our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair. This event is an opportunity for students of all ages to build their home libraries and further their love of reading. As always, all purchases benefit our school.

Our Spring Book Fair will be a familiar, welcome, and safe event for our students. Here's what you need to know about the Fair, which will be from Thursday, April 21, through Friday, April 29. During school days, the campus Book Fair will ONLY be open to Students. On Saturday, April 23, the book fair will be open for families to come in and shop from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm. Elementary students will make a wish list during Specials to bring home for parents to see. If you wish for your child to purchase something from the book fair, you may send in cash or create an eWallet.  You may also shop online at our school's Virtual Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school. Here is the link to the Scholastic Book Fair Homepage. https://www.scholastic.com/bf/eastwakeacademy2

Our Book Fair offers a cash-free payment option called eWallet. It's a convenient digital account that your child can use for shopping at our Fair. Grandparents, friends, and others can contribute, too! Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping.

Students love to bring all their change from their piggy banks and dump it out. They will say how much do I have and what can I buy? Mrs. Barnhill would appreciate it if parents would count the change and either put it in an eWallet or give dollars to their child. The e-Wallet worked great in December.

Mrs. Barnhill is looking for some volunteers to help with the Book Fair. Cashiers (must have a background check to run the registers), Shopping Assistant (Help Students make wishlists or pick out books to purchase), Pick up restock orders from the warehouse in Raleigh. If you want to volunteer, please use the link to sign up. https://volunteer.scholastic.com/#/experience/signup/1sACz6zfc

We're excited to celebrate our love of books together at the Book Fair. We look forward to seeing your child there!

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Barnhill
